Music Magazine textual analysis 3

Denotation: This magazine cover consists of two colour Blue and black. This photograph of Taylor Swift shows that she is looking directly at the camera; she poses in a nice way, so that the readers would admire her looks. The camera shot used is a Medium shot; meaning a shot from the waists upwards. The way she dresses also matches with the colours used in the magazine which makes it very simple. Another point could be that of the background, a plain white colour used to connotes peace and pure along with the image that covers the whole of the magazine. The masthead is placed behind the photograph which starts on the left. Her name is written in black along with the cover lines in blue. Barcode is also included. This photographed of Taylor swift is used to show how important she is probably the way she is represented in media and how successful she had become. Therefore, audience might have a sense of impression that she is a young role model who may inspire other youths.

Masthead: To describe this masthead, it is the ultimate guide of music, meaning Blender magazine cannot be underestimated, and whatever it says on the cover line is what would be inside the magazine itself. With this masthead, it is just a blue colour with no outlines and in a Sans serif font written in capital letters. Blender magazine came about in 1994; this clearly shows that it is recent. It is an American music magazine, it focuses on artistes, music and brands. Blender magazine is quite popular in America, because not only those it cover the good songs always, it talks about things in general rather than focus on just certain people that must read the magazine. Therefore one could assume with the colour of the masthead and the sans serif used is quite attracted, because it is bold and clear and stands out properly.

Character: The photograph is of a young talented, multi warded singer and songwriter ‘Taylor Swift’. She dressed in a simple outfit with her black waist coat and white silky top along with a black pant.

Composition: She is dressed in a very simple way; she looks confident and ready to be on that blender magazine. Her body language is admirable.

Costume:  Her clothing is a black waist coat along with a white top and black pant. This costume is not extreme; it’s a simple style which would appeal to certain target audience of the magazine who are most likely to be female.

NVC: Her Non verbal communication is decent for a famous artistes compare to the ways other artistes might be represented in other magazine.

Lighting:  The lighting used for this magazine is High key. The photograph is mainly light tone, which goes with the background.  

Setting: The background is white connotes pure, good and inspiration.

Cover lines: The main cover line is that of ‘Taylor swift: meet the boyfriend trashing radio-ruling’. This is making reference in her blender interview along with a piece of her music she did before ‘you belong with me’ when she over heard her male friend speaking to his girlfriend in a quiet and defensive way in April 2008.In this video, she felt sympathy for her friend as tried to convince his girlfriend to make her understand.  With this music is a pop element, it won a kids choice awards and was nominated for the song of the year at the 45th Academy of country music awards. It always also debuted at number twelve on the billboard Hot 100, which shows that as a young teenager, she is very successful with her music. There are different cover lines which could suggest that the magazine covers different stories. The artistes that were mentioned are Taylor swift, Michael Jackson and Gnarls Barkley. With this magazine it is targeted at young people, they might see Taylor Swift has a role model.

Target Audience: Although there are several points made about this magazine, the likely target audience would be people (male and female aged 14-20). This magazine may be interesting to them to see how a young teenager could be good role models to the others.
